The Métis are a group of Indigenous peoples who live in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and sections of Ontario, the Northwest Territories, and the northern United States.
They have a common history and culture, of mixed Indigenous and European heritage. By the mid-eighteenth century, they had evolved into a unique group through ethnogenesis during the fur trade era.
According to the infographic below from Statistics Canada, the Métis population was predicted to reach 615,000 in 2016. In 2041, it might be anywhere between 883,000 and 1,152,000, depending on the projected scenario. Between 2016 and 2041, the average annual growth rate would range between 1.5 and 2.5 percent.
